The University of Tennessee, Knoxville is setting a new standard for sustainable campus operations. Thanks to a $3 million grant from the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC), UT Facilities Services is introducing nine state-of-the-art, all-electric utility and recycling trucks to its fleet. These vehicles represent a significant leap in campus technology, offering a quieter, more efficient, and emission-free alternative to traditional diesel engines.
This milestone is the result of a powerful statewide partnership. Tennessee Clean Fuels (TCF) played a critical role in this project, working closely with UT Facilities Services and the Tickle College of Engineering to shape the successful grant application. From securing the funding to ensuring the project’s technical viability, TCF’s collaborative efforts helped transform this vision from a concept into a campus reality. With local manufacturing roots—including components from Alcoa and trucks built in Murfreesboro—this initiative highlights the impact of working together to accelerate Tennessee’s transition to a more sustainable energy future.
