FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE  >  September 7, 2017

National Drive Electric Week is a nationwide chance to celebrate electric vehicles (EVs) in the U.S. and heighten awareness of their many benefits. This year, a variety of groups across Tennessee are hosting exciting events in support of this nationwide cause!  Events are scheduled in Knoxville (two events), Chattanooga and Memphis.  Click below to visit that location’s page at the National Drive Electric Week website to find more details about each site and the planned activities, or contact the event leader:

These partners are helping bring education about electric vehicles to several Tennessee communities and are part of more than 200 such events across the country. These events will consist of EV owners and their neighbors holding various electric events like EV parades, “tailpipe-free” tailgate parties, launches of new public EV charging stations, and others that bring attention to the many benefits that EVs offer. At each event you will be able to speak with EV drivers about their vehicles and how they work and perform and their application to everyday life, as well as speak with experts about recharging EVs in Tennessee.

U.S. dependence on foreign oil has dropped since 2005 (energy.gov) due in part to U.S. fleets and citizens switching to driving alternative fuels and electric vehicles.  The number of EVs across the U.S. and in Tennessee is growing steadily along with the necessary charging infrastructure. National Drive Electric Week is a chance to celebrate a move away from petroleum use and keep that trend moving in the right direction.

Additionally, a resource is now available to help Tennesseans learn more about electric vehicles and the various ways in which they can be charged:  www.DriveElectricTN.org.  This resource includes information on workplace charging, which allows businesses to affordably offer employees the benefit of charging their EVs at work!  The “Tennessee Workplace Charging Partnership” is looking for businesses that would like to join this statewide effort and help expand     access to recharging EVs.
